One of the first steps in preparing a Neighbourhood Plan is to apply to designate the Neighbourhood Area, which is the geographical area that the plan will cover. This process can only be done by a parish council, or by a Neighbourhood Forum in an unparished area.

MBC’s decision to make a Neighbourhood Plan

The Staplehurst Neighbourhood Plan was made (adopted) on 7th December 2016 and updated on 6th August 2020. The Neighbourhood Plan is used along with the Maidstone Local Plan Review to determine planning applications within the parish of Staplehurst.

The Regulation 16 consultation on Staplehurst's Neighbourhood Plan is now closed. It was open between Monday 22nd June 2026 - Friday 31st July 2026. Representations received are available to view here.
